Date: 2013-07-23 01:49 am (UTC)He's waiting by the elevator exit on the island, dressed pretty casually without his coat and a backpack slung over one shoulder. When Yukio arrives he flashes him a smile.]
About time! [He turns away to start walking.] Today we're going to the beach.

Date: 2013-07-23 01:52 am (UTC)Why are we going to the beach?

Date: 2013-07-23 01:59 am (UTC)[He shifts the backpack, glancing back at him.] Did you see Maka's message?

Date: 2013-07-23 02:06 am (UTC)[Yukio keeps his eyes on their surroundings as they walk.] I did.

Date: 2013-07-23 02:15 am (UTC)[Inhales.] How are you farin'?

Date: 2013-07-23 02:27 am (UTC)I'm fine. Either Niisan will return, or he's gone back to where he's meant to be in the first place.
[Very logical, yes?]

Date: 2013-07-23 02:38 am (UTC)The beach lies ahead of them and Night sniffs the air. Salty.]
You two were pretty close this last curse. It was pretty heartwarming to see!

Date: 2013-07-23 02:54 am (UTC)Our memories were manipulated. [Said with a heavy frown. He's still not entirely sure how he feels about the recent curse. The kid's got enough problems in his life without the under-sea-powers-that-be screwing with his head.]
no subject
Date: 2013-07-23 02:59 am (UTC)He steps out onto the sand and shrugs off the backpack.]
Plus the experience was nice, at least for me. I've never had a family like that before.

Date: 2013-07-23 03:17 am (UTC)He shakes his head a bit to himself, stepping awkwardly on the sand in shoes that aren't meant for beach-wear.]
... I'm glad you enjoyed yourself.

Date: 2013-07-23 03:41 am (UTC)It's a baseball mitt.]
I would definitely rank it as one of the better curses I've been through. [The worst being when he turned into a Soul Eater style Witch and nearly killed Rin.
He pulls out a baseball and his own mitt before carefully setting the bag off to the side.]
You still got a good aim, yeah?

Date: 2013-07-23 03:57 am (UTC)... It's been a long time.

Date: 2013-07-23 04:09 am (UTC)Well, now's as good a time as any, am I right?

Date: 2013-07-23 04:19 am (UTC)So you brought me up here just to play catch?
no subject
Date: 2013-07-23 04:24 am (UTC)Looks like it! Unless you'd prefer I throw you around some... Your choice.
no subject
Date: 2013-07-23 04:28 am (UTC)Yukio shakes his head again, silently lifting his glove. He chooses the game of catch, thanks.]
no subject
Date: 2013-07-23 04:37 am (UTC)Okay, throwing the ball now.]
So, besides working, what do you do in your free time?
no subject
Date: 2013-07-23 04:54 am (UTC)There's a collection of books in the library from other worlds that I've started reading. [SHOCKING.]

Date: 2013-07-24 03:54 am (UTC)When I was younger my friend would read to me her books. They were children's stories... I remember enjoying Hanasaka Jiisan.

Date: 2013-07-24 04:18 am (UTC)[At least Night can be sure that it's not just him. Yukio's just not an easy guy to get to know in general.]
I remember that one. [Now this seems like a fairly safe topic. Shiro read to them all the time. He smiles, but just barely.] Did she ever read you Eneko to Nezumi?
no subject
Date: 2013-07-24 04:23 am (UTC)No, she didn't. Tell me about it?

Date: 2013-07-24 04:41 am (UTC)The youngest son of a large farming family was born too small and weak to do chores like his brothers. Instead he spent his days drawing cats. His parents sent him to a temple to become a priest. He learned quickly, but still spent much of his time drawing cats everywhere. One of the old priests finally told him that he couldn't become a priest, but that he might be an artist, and sent him away with one piece of advice: Avoid large spaces at night.
The boy went to a nearby temple to see if they would take him on, not knowing that it had been deserted after a goblin-rat drove the priests away. A light still burned in the temple at night, so when the boy arrived, he went in. He found large white screens inside and painted cats on them before going to sleep, remembering the old priest's advice and closing himself inside a little cabinet. He heard the sounds of fighting during the night. The next morning he found the goblin-rat dead in the middle of the temple, and all the cat's he'd painted had blood around their mouths.
[Just a little gruesome sounding, but that doesn't seem to bother Yukio. That's not the point of the story, after all. Not so far as Yukio is concerned.]
There are different endings depending on which version you read, but the boy ends up a hero in both.
